Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a public speaking event organizer. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which is a website that features videos and comments analyzing the portrayals of females in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic with awards to show for her writing, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit educational website which investigates representations of women in popular culture narratives. She's dedicated to breaking down stereotypes of women and the way they are portrayed in popular media. Furthermore, she seeks to educate people about cyber-bullying targeting females and other minorities of people. Sarkeesian graduated with a master's degree in Political and Social Thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she is well-known and has been a speaker at TEDxWomen and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. As a child Sarkeesian was intrigued by issues of gender identity and feminist theories. When she was still in school, in 2009, she launched the Feminist Frequency Website. The woman was determined and was planning to launch a web series focused on how gender is represented within games. However, she found herself at the center of an online harassment campaign. But the assault did be a deterrent, but it only bolstered her resolve to be a feminist media critic. She has won numerous awards in recognition of her many significant contributions to the world of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded numerous accolades and has founded Feminist Frequency a nonprofit educational company that examines the ways women are depicted in pop culture narratives.
